Patricia Urquiola
Patricia Urquiola was born in Oviedo, Spain. She lives and works in Milan, Italy. She studied Architecture at the Madrid Polytechnic and the Milan Polytechnic, where she graduated in 1989 with Achille Castiglioni. She was assistant lecturer for Achille Castiglioni; collaborated with Vico Magistretti; and was head of Design for Lissoni Associati. In 2001 she opened her own studio working in the areas of product design, interiors and architecture. Among her most recent projects in architecture: The Jewel Museum in Vicenza, the Hotel Mandarin Oriental in Barcelona, the Hotel Das Stue in Berlin, the Spa of the Four Seasons Hotel in Milan; retail projects and fittings for Gianvito Rossi, BMW, Cassina, Ferragamo, Flos, Missoni, Molteni, Officine Panerai, H&M, Santoni, Pitti Uomo Florence. She has made products for leading Italian and international companies, including: Agape, Alessi, Axor-Hansgrohe, B&B Italia, Baccarat, Boffi, Budri, De Padova, Driade, Flos, Gan, Georg Jensen, Glas Italia, Haworth, Kartell, Kettal, Kvadrat, Listone Giordano, Louis Vuitton, Molteni, Moroso, Mutina, Rosenthal and Verywood. Some of her products are exhibited in major art and design museums, including MoMa in New York, Les Arts decoratifs in Paris, the Museum of Design in Zurich, the Vitra Design Museum in Basel, the Victorian&Albert Museum in London, the Stedelijk in Amsterdam, and the Triennale Museum in Milan. She has won several international awards including: the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes from the Spanish Government: the Order of Isabella the Catholic, presented by His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain, "Designer of the Decade" for Home and Häuser magazines, "Designer of the Year" for Wallpaper, AD Spain, Elle Decor International and Architektur und Wohnen magazines.
